Common Signs of Termite Infestation

Termite infestation can hide in your home for many years and cause significant structural damage before you know that something is wrong. Why detect early signs of termites? They will prevent destruction to your home. Here are some of the most common signs of termite infestation.

Mud tubes: These are the protective tunnels from the ground to a food source, which are constructed by a termite usually along the foundation walls. Mud tubes indicate that a termite is active; they stay moist in the dark out of light exposure.

Swarmers and Discarded Wings: Termites with wings, which are known as swarmers, leave their colonies when the weather is warm and start new colonies. In fact, you might catch sight of these swarmers around windows or light. Once they find a new site to settle, they shed the wings, which accumulate next to doors and window sills.

Wooden Destruction: Internal wood ingestion by termites makes it sound empty from the inside. Wood that sounds hollow upon knocking or has blistering or darkening spots on the flooring or wooden building.

Frass (Termites Droppings): The subterranean type relies on mud tubes while drywood termites will shove out their droppings referred to as frass through small holes present on damaged wood. Frass are almost like small gritty wooden pellets found near destroyed wooden pieces.

If you do come across any of the symptoms, it is prudent that you immediately contact an exterminator because quick diagnosis can lead to extreme loss prevention thus saving ample amount of money and time consumed in terms of renovation work. That is why inspections from termites are inevitable and crucial to keeping your home safe from such dangerous bugs.
